My mother has a cavity in one of her premolars. Besides having pain in the teeth, jaws and gum area, her tongue, neck, cheek and ear on that side hurts. Is that normal? Also, since she is unable to visit a doctor this week, is there any way to get relief from the pain till then? Lastly, is extraction the only option?

hi you have to visit the dentist and it will go for root canal treament ans she will get complete relief meanwhile you can ask her take good analgesic and some precautions like she suppose to take warm salt water gargle and do the proper brushing and also ask her to not suppose to eat from that side thanks regards
The symptoms as mentioned by you suggest of cavity which has progressed very deep and hence the cause of referred pain.
It is better to do an xray and then accordingly plan a treatment, extraction can be avoided. Root canal treatment can be done followed by dental crown will save the tooth depending upon the xray.
For now suitable painkillers and antibiotics can be given to her without she having any history of allergy.
Sometimes when teeth get infected the pain radiates to the ear, cheek, neck areas and patient is not able to decide which tooth is hurting exactly. So the best thing you can do for home care is do warm saline rinse( that is warm water with a pinch of salt). This can be done 3-4 times a day.Chlorhexidine mouthwash can be used at bedtime to reduce bacterial load. One thing to AVOID at home is hot fomentation.Painkiller and antibiotics can be given by the dentist, depending on severity of the pain.It would be better for you to see the dentist at the earliest. After X-ray the dentist would be able to give you treatment options.Extractions are not always the best option but sometimes the only option if tooth is badly damaged. Thanks.
Hello,
Looks like your mothers premolar is infected.Visit an Endodontist and see if the tooth can be saved by an RCT.
