The sound you are talking about is called creptius sound and is indicates the wear and tear .It can be Osteoarthritis or may be pre patellar syndrome. You need assessment by physio and proper management .
As per my advise don't check the sound again n again by bending your knee.
And it could be ligament injury. So consult an physiotherapist for proper assessment and treatment and avoid cross leg sitting n do hot fomentation about 15-20 minutes at home.
do not bend your knees for longer periods.
do knee strengthening exercises.
avoid prolong sitting and standing.
take hot fermentation.
walking is also good option.
