I suffered a right clavicle fracture in June and wore an 8-figure belt and arm sling for 3 weeks. I am still wearing my arm sling. My August X-ray (attached) shows overlapping bone ends. One doctor says it will heal with time, while another recommended surgery. I am confused and seeking specialist advice on whether I need operation or can continue with sling care.
Both methods of treatment are evidence based.
Kindly consult your doctor for evaluation. The decision is based on your level of activity. And also if any red flags sign like skin impingement are present
It’s ur dominant shoulder opinion is based on your activity demand in future if u want quick and fast action of your shoulder movement get surgery if need sedentary life with no much heavy of need of active shoulder movement go fr conservative both will heal your bone
This August xray attached here shows a displaced right clavicle shaft fracture. It would require a surgical fixation with plate and screws as there is no end to end contact of two bones
Next Steps
Please consult your nearest orthopedic surgeon and get surgery done
Health Tips
Clavicle fractures are usually treated with sling and 8 bandage but considering young age it is better to get surgical fixation for better shoulder dynamics
At this age this will heal ,there will be some malunion which is ok as the functional result of this will be good.
If your pain in decreased continue with same treatment
Depends on kind of activity, profession, asthetics of the person, skin condition etc.
Since this is displaced better to go ahead with surgery based on your xrays and age.
But clavicle fracture also unites pretty well with Conservative methods
