Your serum iron of 37.2 ug/dl is indeed low, and Orofer XT is a good iron supplement commonly used for iron deficiency. However, the duration of treatment depends on your haemoglobin level, ferritin level, and the underlying cause of the iron deficiency â typically it is continued for 3 to 6 months after haemoglobin normalises to replenish iron stores. At 61 years, the cause of iron deficiency also needs to be investigated to rule out any hidden blood loss.
