I have a buzzing / pulsatile sound in my left ear only.
I consulted an ENT:
- Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA): Normal
- Tympanometry: Normal
Since all tests were normal, I was not using any ENT medicines.
Recently, I started having hair fall, so a dermatologist prescribed:
- Oral Minoxidil 0.25 mg daily
After starting oral Minoxidil, my left ear buzzing sound increased.
I want to know the actual cause, because oral Minoxidil increased the sound, so maybe you can tell what the reason could be.
I do not want to use random tinnitus medicines without knowing the cause.
My questions:
1. What could be the cause of pulsatile buzzing when ENT tests are normal?
2. Why oral Minoxidil worsen tinnitus / pulsatile tinnitus?
3. Should I continue oral Minoxidil and increase the dose, or stop it?
4. Any test that can tell the actual reason for pulsatile ringing in the left ear, especially since it increased after oral Minoxidil?
What is the reason for the buzzing sound

Minoxidil is vasodilator , it will affect blood flow or pressure changes in inner ear, so can trigger tinnitus but it's very rarest side effect of it, till tym only few people reported.
So my suggestion to stop for 1 week or 10 days and see the effect, your tinnitus is resolving or not.
Next Steps
thorough ENT examination needed, sometimes pressure changes in neck vessels also can cause, inner ear, middle ear any abnormalities, av malformation, tumor, drug induced , nerve weakness, rhinitis, ET block etc. so many causes of it.
Health Tips
Investigations are available to do like tinnitogram ,CT , MRI n angiography for rule out vascular abnormalities but better do it after advising by ent specialist.
my suggestion once stop minoxidil for atleast 10 days and observe any changes in tinnitus present or not.
