I have a month old boy. He doesn't sleep much at a stretch he sleeps only for 20 to 30 mins max and does not sleep for more than 8 hours a day. He is always very cranky and cries heavily during the night. Please suggest what can I do to comfort him.

Hind milk during breast feeding contains more fat and helps in satisfying the hunger of the child. So effort should be made to empty one breast during a feed and the other breast should be offered in the next feed. Also don't try to pacify him everytime at night by feeding as then he will become a trained night time feeder and remain awake.

Keep your home quite and dark at night. Give breast feeding in night also as when needed in reclining position. Give proper burping after feeds. Most importantly-give feeding from one breast until it’s empty before changing side, do not shift breasts repeatedly. If problem persists then you need a video/ physical consultation.
Sleep is definitely less than normal if 8 hours only.
Should see your pediatric for evaluation to rule out any underlying cause
Possible solutions at your end
1. Check feeding is appropriate , every 2-3 hourly, if top fed 150 ml/kg/ day
2.burping is advised
3. Raise the head end Of cot by few degrees
4. Give tummy time when baby is awake
5.Make sure there is no issue with feeding posture
6.check if there is any diaper rash
7.sleep hygiene , adequate temperature controlled environment , with no disturbance because of sound and light
LASTLY , weight check, IF WEIGHT GAIN is adequate , mostly serious condition is not there.
But ,always better to get baby physically examined
Hi.
Babies sleep well in the day time and are cranky at night. This would last for another couple of months.
Not sleeping at a stretch , could be due to insufficient milk. What is the baby’s birth and current weight?
