Hi team,
I am having OCD. Doctor has advised me uvox cr 100 mg, ristab ls, clonotril 0.5 mg and toxifite, sameral 400 mg tab for liver safety. Now the sameral 400 mg tab is very big and difficult to swallow. So I am breaking the tablet in two halves and swallowing it. Can I take the tablet like this? Will it reduce the effect of the tablet?

Hello, Sameral (S-Adenosyl Methionine) 400 mg is a supplement often used for liver health and sometimes in psychiatric conditions. Breaking the tablet into halves and swallowing is generally safe and will not reduce its effectiveness, provided it is not an enteric-coated or sustained-release formulation. Most commonly available SAMe tablets are film-coated but not sustained-release, so splitting is acceptable if it helps you swallow more easily.
Next Steps
a. Confirm with your pharmacist or doctor whether your brand of Sameral is enteric-coated. If it is, avoid crushing but splitting in half is usually fine.
b. Continue taking the medication as prescribed along with your other medicines (uvox, ristab, clonotril, toxifite).
c. Inform your treating doctor if you experience any new symptoms or difficulty tolerating the tablet.
Health Tips
1. Always use a clean tablet cutter for equal halves to ensure proper dosing.
2. Do not crush the tablet into powder unless your doctor advises, as that may interfere with absorption.
3. Keep regular follow-ups with your psychiatrist to monitor progress in OCD management and liver safety.
