Rinifol is not advised in babies less than one year old. Give plenty of fluid with half concentration of the ORS that you use in more than 1 year old child because the kidneys are immature. See that the baby passes sufficient urine. Give mother's milk as much as possible. If the baby passes urine within an hour then everything is okay. Otherwise you will have to give saline infusion in a hospital.

URGENT: Please take your baby to a hospital immediately — do not wait. A 15-day-old newborn who has passed urine only ONCE since last night (which is many hours of decreased urine output), had loose motions (losing fluid), is crying persistently, and has not passed gas is showing signs of DEHYDRATION and possible abdominal distress. Newborns have almost no reserve — they can deteriorate and go into shock very rapidly, within hours, when dehydrated. At 15 days of age, decreased urine output combined with diarrhoea and continuous crying is a paediatric emergency. Signs of dangerous dehydration in a newborn include: fewer wet nappies, dry mouth and tongue, sunken fontanelle (soft spot on top of head), sunken eyes, no tears when crying, limp or unusually quiet baby, or persistent inconsolable crying. Even if the motions have reduced with Renifil, the baby is clearly not well — the crying and not passing gas may indicate intestinal cramps, gas distension, or a more serious abdominal problem that needs physical examination by a doctor immediately.
Next Steps
GO TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL OR PAEDIATRIC EMERGENCY NOW — do not wait until morning or for the next dose of medicine. The baby needs to be examined by a Paediatrician urgently to assess hydration status and rule out any serious cause. Keep feeding the baby (breast milk/formula) as frequently as possible while on the way. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.

Any decrease in urine or urine not passed for 6 hours , especially with gastroenteritis needs immediate care, fluid replacement. Otherwise infants will go into shock very rapidly. Secondly if baby is crying vigorously, it can be due to severe dehydration or pain. There are possibilities of intra- abdominal pathology. Seek a paediatrician help for further evaluation without any further delay.
Next Steps
continue to feed baby as per demand.
