Non union fracture with infection
My mother fractured her right femur in Jul-21 which got treated with plating immediately but it didn't healed and later it is identified that there was an infection at the fracture site but it didn't appear outside the skin at all. This is further treated with anti-biotic nailing and bone grafting in Feb-22. She was on IV antibiotics for 2 months. It was remain non-union till Sep-23. Doctor has advised for PET CT and then diagnosed with infection but it didn't appear outside the skin. It was again operated and exchanged the nail with thicker nail and bone grafting in Oct-23. She was given IV antibiotics for 2 months and monitored the CRP level every 15 days. It was reduced to 13 but now further increased to 41 after a month of stopping IV antibiotics but she is on oral antibiotics. Need opinion what is to be done as I am feeling helpless and my mother is suffering since last 2 and half years and 3 surgeries are already done. Don't know if any treatment is available.
