Eight months without a period at 20 needs a cause identified, not just a tablet to bring on bleeding. When a progesterone course does not produce a withdrawal bleed, it usually means the lining has not been built up by oestrogen at all, or a pregnancy is present, or there is an outflow issue. Polycystic ovary syndrome, low body weight or heavy exercise, thyroid problems, raised prolactin and reduced ovarian function are the common underlying reasons at your age, and each is treated differently.
Next Steps
Go back to your gynaecologist and ask for a pregnancy test, a pelvic ultrasound, and blood tests including thyroid function, prolactin, FSH, LH and AMH before any further course of tablets.
Health Tips
Long stretches without periods also affect bone strength over time, so this is worth sorting out properly rather than repeating tablets every few months.
