N Fowleri infection
We have used same water from borewell for 10 years now. But ever since I read about N Fowleri infections, I get worried even I accidentally breathe in water on taking bath. I only wanted to know if taking Azithromycin capsule alone before symptoms appear save a person or one can only wait and watch if symptoms appear, need to go to hospital as only combination of medicines have a chance to save, if one can be saved. I know it's very rare and pray I don't get it.

Hi Please do not self medicate. Azithromycin is a strong antibiotic that should not be consumed without a doctor’s prescription. Self medication of any medicine is potentially harmful.

Consult a psychiatrist or physician about your concerns

Hi The thought of fear is the reason (of many things from the past, there is definite root cause that can be found out in a therapeutic session with any expert ) which is making you think of catching the infection, these thoughts can totally be reduced, let me know on the scale of 0 to 10 where 0 is low and 10 is high what is the intensity of your thoughts? What is the level between 0-10 ? Also about consuming any medication without a prescription is not healthy, i recommend the best way is to reach out to a therapist in case of high intensity of fear of getting infected, if the fear is not that high then reach to a physician. For any further information, you can surely reach out to me🙏 Stay very Blissful 🙌
Next Steps
Rate the intensity of fear between 0-10 ? If it's high , reach out to a Therapist 🙏
Health Tips
Start with a meditation-exercise and breathing-exercise(4-7-8 technique to follow). wish you good luck.

Naegleria Fowleri infection is extremely rare. There are many infections that are more devastating and common which most people accept as one of the many big and small risks that come to them as a part of their regular living environment. Your question is about the treatment (taking Azithromycin before the symptoms appear) which someone specialising in the treatment of N Fowleri may be able to answer. From the mental health angle, I feel you are getting disproportionately worried about this infection that is probably generating a lot of anxiety in you. If you are unable to convince yourself that your worries are highly disproportionate and irrational to a great extent, you may have to seek help from a psychologist who will address issues like illness anxiety disorder which you probably could be having. Please remember, in comparison with so many risks that we face in life every day (and live with them fearlessly), the risk of an N Fowleri infection is too small to get into constant and obsessive worry.
Next Steps
Please consult a psychologist, if required.
