Moodiness,  irritability,  excessive anger,  blaming others and at times self are signs of emotional distress. He may be suffering from a depressive episode. You have to empathize with him and make him understand that depression can lead to persistent negative emotions and negative perceptions about the world.  Counselling and few medications can help him come out of it.
Next Steps
Consult a psychiatrist
Health Tips
Ask him how this negative mood is affecting him and offer your unconditional support.

Hi... these may be symptoms of underlying depression and stress. He also has lots of repressed anger which finds its way out at several occasions.
Next Steps
kindly talk to him when he is in a good mood to see a doctor. He could be reluctant to meet a psychiatrist... so you both can see your family physician to start with and then see a psychiatrist. Medications and or various therapies and counselling will help.
Health Tips
This can be done if you and your husband are keen on  getting things right. Obviously he is suffering... and he is in denial. All the best.
