My father has Diabetes and has cataract 100%. Getting good doctor consultancy is tough. His diabetes is under control now after treatment 140 before fast and 170 after lunch. Considering above condition I have following questions: Can someone suggest whats better for this situation ? ----> mono-focal or multi-focal ? Which company ? ----> Alcon or Symfony ? Do you guys have experience with Symfony (Extended Range of Vision) ? I read its good because its better than regular IOL mono-focals, is that true ? Any known issues with above Symfony lense ? Thanks, Jiten

Hello 1.Mono or multifocal lens is decided by keratometer readings of cornea. if Difference between vertical and horizontal keratometer readings is less than 1 D...multifocal lens will give good results ...if it is more than 1D then your father will need glasses after Surgery 2. No multifocal lens gives 100% guarantee of glasses free life after surgery 3. Decision will also be guided by the retina status. In case of macular edema monofocal will be preferred

Considering father had diabetes, don't complicate his life further. Go for monofocal & leave choice on operating doctor.
