My 3 yr old is having nightmares
Hi, my 3.4 yr old kid is waking up with a bad dream and with his eyes open. He will cry and mumble something. we try to pacify him but he will continue to cry. It's only when we give him a sip of water or spray water on his face he realises actual things around him and calms down, and goes back to sleep. These 2-5 mins are very scary. We have absolutely no idea what's going on with him. Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Nightmares are common in ages 3 to 6 as they have vivid imagination. Ensure a peaceful bed time routine - a warm bath , bedtime stories . Limit screen time and also monitor your child’s activity on youtube or other websites . He might be seeing scary videos or even thumbnails causing anxiety. Talk to him during calmer daylight hours about any stress or any thing that might be disturbing him . Occasional nightmares are not to be worried about but if your child is extremely scared of going to bed or fearful during the day - bring it up with your pediatrician as the dreams could signal an emotional issue that needs addressing .
