Molar bands or buccal tube
My query is what is a better choice buccal tube or molar band. My dentist has put buccal tube on upper molars and molar bands on lower. However, they have (buccal tube) come off thrice. Does this gonna impact my treatment period?

Buccal tubes are easy to maintain regarding oral hygiene, but yes they r more prone to debond if u chew hard chewy food and if you chew hard. Molar bands surrounds teeth, does not break off easily but many a times causes gingivitis, bleeding gums if oral hygiene is not good or if band itself becomes loose. If repeatedly your buccal tube debonds it is obvious that your treatment time will b prolonged if it is not bonded immediately. From my opinion Molar bands are preferable if crown height is good enough for band adaptation and v can reduce chairside time considerably.

Buccal tubes and molar bands are essentially the same thing in terms of function. 1.Buccal tubes are stuck on one side of the tooth with composite (adhesive). They are more delicate and more likely to break of if not taken care of but are more comfortable. 2. Molar tubes wrap around the entire tooth and are more robust they are generally used in the lower teeth as they are subjected to heavier forces while chewing. Hope this clarifies your quires.
Next Steps
Treatment duration will be extended if the brackets/buccal tubes/molar bands get broken frequently.

See molar tube and bands both work as same.. any time buccal tubes are good if u take care well.. lower your doctors has put bands as force more often come to the lower teeth .. there are more chances that tube comes out. And if its coming out more often than he has to put band to your upper teeth also. But tubes are always bter but you have to take care of it well. Other wise its your loss. So doctor will do his part but taking care of it is your part. Hope thats ans to your worries

In my opinion Buccal tubes and bands have the same purpose , but having said that i have my preferences in cases where i choose to place tubes and cases where i choose to place a band . I usually prefer a band in children and in patients who have frequent breakages due to their eating habits as in they eat more hard food substances and are not able to alter their diet accordingly to braces . Another scenario i use bands is in patients who have a very strong bite and hence tubes cannot take that kind of stress . Having said that i also prefer to use Buccal tubes in patients who have a tendency of gum swelling in the back regions of their mouth and lack stricter oral hygiene habits . An orthodontist can use both the tubes and the band depending on his or her preference and also the requirement of the patient . Coming to the next question , does the treatment time get increased due to frequent breakages ? . Yes it does and going to the next wire sequence is delayed in case of breakage of tube . Whenever a breakage is there we need to put the bracket back and then go a step back as in put a thinner wire and then wait for the tooth to align and then move to the next wire sequence . As Orthodontic tooth movement is natural and we need to abide to a lot of biological forces it is a slow treatment process but a Natural one .
