Metal inlay fallen off
I got my tooth partially removed due to cavities. There was a metal inlay fixed in that area. But the inlay came off shortly after 1-2 months when i was eating food. How long do inlays last generally? Is it better to get a porcelain inlay done (rather than metal inlay) in case it comes off and I swallow it accidentally?

Hey, I am a prosthodontist. I would advice going for a more retentive design of the cavity would have aided as well as a cement with a stronger bond strength like zinc phosphate. But these are advice for the dentist. If you could convey it. A porcelain inlay would also come off if the design of the cavity is not retentive. Try to be conservative.Dont go for a crown unless the damage to tooth is extensive.
Next Steps
Ask the dentist if the design can be modified/ better bonding can be done

Hello sir,           Hope you are staying safe. Metal inlays are generally not being done nowadays. We can go for root canal treatment along with crowns for long lasting  restoration. If any restoration like inlays wear off you can feel the removal immediately but still coming to safety purpose, crowns are far more better than inlays and onlays.
Next Steps
consult us for rootcanal treatment along with crown.

Hi 1. Within 2 months inlay can come out mostly because of cement detachment. Just get it re fixed. Inlays are life long till you clean that area properly.
