Mesh free inguinal hernia repair
Hello, my inguinal hernia isn't bothering me yet as I can do daily routines without pain. However, I've been asked to not go to the gym and lift heavy objects. I'm not inclining to the mesh repair because I don't want to risk how my body will react to the mesh, so I wanted to know the drawbacks of a mesh free shouldice method (apart from recurrence which will depend on my lifestyle). Thanks in advance.

Hernioplasy using mesh is the gold standard throughout the world. Mesh free repair or herniorhapy is done in a few centers but it is obsolete nowadays. Shouldice and bassini repair are done successfully in their respective centers. There ll be no issues in using a mesh for surgery

Hi in inguinal hernia at this age we recommend mesh repair either open or laparoscopic surgery...U neednt worry abt hw ur body will react to mesh as the meshes are manufactured in such a way that they are compatible with the human body...Why we prefer mesh repair is bcos this mesh helps in reinforcing the defect in your abdominal wall muscles and thereby prevent further hernia...whereas in case of shouldice repair we r using fascia transversalis to reinforce but it may not be that effective without mesh bcos u being toung and inspite of have good muscle tone have acquired inguinal hernia so chances of recurrence without meah is high...So better to go for a mesh repair either by laparoscopy or open method...

Recurrence is certain. Without mesh, surgery is useless.
