Medicine dosage
Hi, my son had a fever for 4 days. I consulted a doctor here (we live outside India), and they said it was flu that would go away on its own, advising us to call only if the fever went above 104°F. After 3 days, the fever settled, and he no longer has a fever now. The only medicine I gave was paracetamol every 6 hours. On two nights, when his fever reached 103.5°F, I gave Mefta-P solution (7 ml) instead of paracetamol, which had been prescribed earlier by a doctor in India. Now my son is complaining of stomach pain and has diarrhea 5–6 times a day. Overall, he is fine—he is drinking fluids and eating small amounts of food—but he has stomach discomfort. The only medicine I have at home is Sporlac sachet, prescribed earlier by an Indian pediatrician. Should I give that for diarrhea? I just want to know the dosage—how many sachets and how to give it. I only keep medicines for emergencies, and since my son hasn’t had diarrhea in 2 years, I forgot the dosage. Your guidance would be helpful.

Hello, I understand your concern After a viral fever/flu, children can develop temporary stomach upset and loose stools. This usually settles in 3–5 days. Sporlac (probiotic) — optional but safe 1 sachet twice daily, Mix in water/ORS/curd and give after food. Use for 3–5 days Avoid: Meftal-P, ibuprofen, or new medicines unless advised by a doctor
Next Steps
Give plenty of fluids—ORS/soups/coconut water. Offer ½ cup ORS after each loose stool Continue small, frequent meals—curd, rice, banana, dal, idli, toast Avoid packaged juices, soft drinks, deep-fried food Paracetamol only if pain/fever returns No need for antibiotics or anti-diarrheal medicines
Health Tips
Red flags: Blood/mucus in stools Vomiting everything / not drinking well Very tired, irritable, reduced urine ( 5–7 days

For diarrhoea you can give 1 sporolac sachet 1-0-1 for 3 days. Main thing would be to keep hydration For every episode of loose stools give him 150 to 200ml WHO ORS only, apart from that tender coconut, butter milk In case of blood in stools, fever comes back, urine

You can give sporolac sachet twice a day for 3-5 days; please also give ORS around 300-400ml for every loose stool for adequate hydration.
