Anti depressants take time to act, so need to wait for sometime for the things to fall in place. Don't give more of Ativan than prescribed dose due to its addictive potential, tapering it off will be difficult.
Next Steps
If symptoms worsen consult your doctor to review medications.
Health Tips
try and follow sleep hygiene measures try avoiding day time sleep, avoid caffeine intake in the evening, have a basic daily routine.

Sleeping pills are addictive medication which are not advisable to use. His reduced sleep seems to be a part of depression. Try to have structure to his day and regular exercise. Take antidepressant in the morning Give another couple of days to see whether his sleep gets better. If no improvement then medication review is advisable.
Next Steps
Consult his psychiatrist
