Lower back issue
Some days for the last year or so I wake up with a massive lower back pain. It goes away if I sit for sometime. Not sure what the main reason for this might be. Is it a joint or muscle issue?

It could very easily be muscle related but since you mention that this has been happening for a year or so, it'd be great to get it assessed by a good physiotherapist nearby. And if you do plan on getting a consultation please try to recollect as much as you can from when the pain started and if there were any incident that might have lead to the pain ( as small as a jerky movement ). It is important to figure out what is causing the pain to fully treat it.
Next Steps
you can definitely do a hot pack and basic stretching but knowing what all movements/ activities bring you more pain and what brings relief is equally important to be pain free in the long run.

Hi, This seems to be prolonged muscle weakness causing you pain and wrong sleeping posture or sleeping on a spring mattress might increase the pain specially in the morning which settles down after sitting. but since its been a year the condition is developing into chronic pain and if not treated might lead to worsening and can cause various back conditions. you should get yourself consulted and start with physiotherapy as it will prevent you from further injury.
Next Steps
get consultation to understand the exact root cause.
Health Tips
avoid sofa sitting, slouch sitting, while sleeping place a pillow below your knees. apply hot pack in the morning and before sleeping in the night.
