Hello.
So there are evidences for escitalopram increasing the qt interval significantly in some cases. But those cases have been rare. It is not a common side effects. Second qt prolongation in itself is not a bad sign. Instead what we want to prevent is a condition called torsades de pointed, a type of arrhythmia which can be dangerous. But the risk for that increases after a certain level of qtc prolongation.
If you do not have risk factors for qt prolongation it won't happen. For you I will try to list some of the risk factors.
1) already a prolonged qtc near the borderline or more will be at higher risk of developing that.
2) potassium and magnesium abnormalities in blood can precipitate the condition.
3) electrolyte imbalance can precipitate the condition.
4) any previous history of cardiac disease we have to be a little careful.
Notice how I used the word "can"? That use was because even if these abnormalities are there it does not always end up in developing the condition. Even if you are not taking the medication and you have these abnormalities you can again land up with the arrhythmia.
With the medication, if the above listed abnormalities happen the chances may increase of landing up in arrhythmia.
If you get ECG done you can be in clear whether your QTc has increased or not. We do a baseline ECG in patients where we suspect this can happen.
Usually if you are not severely sick or dehydrated, or having severe diarrhea or vomiting (e.g. 7-8 episodes per day for 3-4 days) the levels of potassium, magnesium, and electrolytes remain stable in the body and heart remains in good shape even if there has been a history of cardiac illness.
Health Tips
if you are not experiencing any other issues like dehydration and severe vomiting, diarrhea you are good to go with the drug. do not fear about rare side effects.
if you feel you are having any side effects get yourself evaluated and clear your mind. repeated evaluations will not change your results, hence single evaluation at a frequency of 6 months is more than enough.
have a good lifestyle including 2-3 litre of water consumption, healthy diet, regular excercise, and you will be able to avoid most of the side effects and get a good recovery.
