Pigmentation of nail plate is common in Asian people. It is called "Longitudinal Melanonychia". This is completely benign and there is no suspicion of cancer based on your description and the photo. The incidence of skin cancer is rare in this part of globe but if you see the pigmentation progressing further and crossing the nail fold please see a Dermatologist for assessment.
