Lichen planus is an inflammatory skin condition that can cause dryness and discomfort. While the exact cause is not fully understood, several factors, including immune system dysfunction, stress, and certain medications, may contribute to its development. Emerging evidence suggests that poor gut health, including imbalances in the gut microbiome (dysbiosis), may influence immune responses and inflammation in the body, potentially contributing to skin conditions like lichen planus. However, it is not always the primary cause.
Next Steps
If you’d like personalized dietary advice or supplements to improve gut health, or if your symptoms are severe, please schedule a consultation.
Health Tips
Dietary Recommendations: 1. Include Probiotics & Prebiotics 2. Anti-inflammatory Foods: Include foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (e.g., flaxseeds, walnuts) and antioxidants (e.g., berries, spinach). 3. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin and body well-hydrated. 4. Avoid Triggers: Limit processed foods, refined sugar, and alcohol, which can disrupt gut health and increase inflammation.
