Use a stick in opposite hand while walking. If there is swelling, keep a pillow under the foot  at night. Do exercises for the lower limbs. For exercises see  video on my channel ' drncgupta ' , "me and my yoga "

Usually 4-6 weeks is the time for plaster casts. You can remove it, get an x ray done and start protected weight bearing walking with support. Swelling is bound to happen and stay for some time..
