Language Development
A. We have met a baby of 2.3 year old for adoption. On Meeting the child did not utter a single word though she was with us for 2-3 hours. (she met us in presence of her caregiver and social worker etc). In her Medical report she is referred as normal child and in language section : in reply to "can speak word" answer Yes written while in reply to "can speak sentences" answer No written. Is it a matter of concern? B. We were of d view that a two year old cant speak sentences, but her silence was strange. HOW TO UNDERSTAND A TWO YEAR OLD NOT MUTE in such a short period. Is d remark "cant speak sentences" is pointer towards some serious problem C. FYI : otherwise the child was responsive, she was following instructions, even responded while we talked to her by shaking her head. A little guidance will help us to a large extent Thanks

Her not uttering a single word might be a sign of shyness. A two year old child starts speaking 2 word sentences. But speech development is imitative, that is, a child speaks what she listens. So her hesitation might be because of her stay in a orphanage. She will develop speech once she gets a more personal environment.
