It's important to clarify that your wife’s elevated TSH level of 14.80 suggests hypothyroidism, which can cause symptoms like dry, itchy skin. The medication (thyroxine) she has been prescribed is aimed at correcting the thyroid imbalance, but it may take time to regulate her levels and alleviate the symptoms.
In addition to hypothyroidism, postpartum hormonal changes can also lead to skin sensitivity and itching. The Bilastine prescribed by the dermatologist is an antihistamine that helps in managing allergic reactions and itching, but addressing the root cause is key.
Ensure that her thyroid levels are rechecked after a few weeks of treatment to adjust the thyroxine dose if needed. Meanwhile, continue moisturizing her skin, and avoid any harsh or fragrant products, as suggested. If the itching persists or worsens, it may be necessary to consult both a dermatologist and an endocrinologist to ensure that both her skin and thyroid issues are managed effectively.
