Insomnia For 15 Days
Dear Doctor, My self Arka Banerjee. Self Employed running a courier business. For the past fer daya approximately about 15 days i cannot sleep well in night. altough i go to bed at 11pm i sleep almost at 2 am am waking up early about 7 am i. e i am getting approximately 5 hours sleep a night and feeling lethargic and depressed throught the day. Earlier i have anxiety problem and have been depressed about 2 years ago. since then i am taking nexito plus 1 tablet at night before bed. Any Solutions?

Dear Arka, worry and stress are major reasons for poor sleep. Please analyse if there is a change in your life in the past month. If you are having low energy levels, low mood, decreased interest and other signs and symptoms of depression, it is important that you consult your doctor/ psychiatrist and review your medications.  If you are otherwise able to continue with your work and don't have any other symptoms then good sleep hygiene may help.
Next Steps
sleep hygiene: don't drink coffee/ tea after 6 pm. use the bed only to sleep and if you are unable to sleep sit on a chair and read a book. dont use the laptop / mobile after 10 pm as the bright light can be stimulating. warm shower and warm milk at night may help. Meet your doctor for a review if you have symptoms of depression.

Loss of interest, decreased concentration and attention, feeling low and disturbed sleep or appetite are some of the signs of depression. Consult a psychiatrist who will assess you in detail. If you are feeling suicidal or hopeless, seek professional help immediately. Try some relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation and deep breathing. Indulge in hobbies. Spend time with people close to you.
