ECT is one of the treatment modality for severe depression.In many cases of severe depressoon with suicidal thoughts,its very useful and helps in remission of symptoms.Duration of continuing ECT's depends on the severity of depression, duration of illness and response to the ECT's. Generally, its given thrice a week and patient may require 6-12 ECT's depending on the clinic profile of the patient.In some cases, after the remission of symptoms,maintainance ECT's once in 8-15 days can be given.In most of the cases, along with anti-depressant drugs.
