As you mentioned gynacomastia is since 17 years of age so it is not because of mediction you are taking for schizophrenia. However medicines can aggravate it. So first thing to do is to check whether you are taking safe medication in terms of this side effect of anti psychotic medication used for schizophrenia

Hi. Gynaecomastia may be caused by multiple reasons. Get a detailed evaluation done. If surgery is advised you may consider it. At times psychiatric medications may precipitate it as well. However as you mentioned different timelines, it may not be the case. However before surgery, ensure to consult your psychiatrist, take his opinion regarding your current status, medications you are on and go ahead with the procedure.

Hello You have developed gynecomastia after starting treatment for schizophrenia? Or You have gynecomastia before schizophrenia diagnosis and treatment? If it is before schizophrenia diagnosis, then consult both psychiatrist and surgeon for best guidance If it has developed after schizophrenia, then it can be because of side effects of medication, so consult your Psychiatrist for dose management and advice on gynecomastia surgery

Yes, gynecomastia surgery can be done even if the patient has schizophrenia provided the illness is stable. Key points: • First, confirm true gynecomastia (hormonal tests, ultrasound). • Review current antipsychotic medicines—some (e.g., risperidone) can worsen gynecomastia. • Ensure psychiatric stability and fitness for surgery (psychiatrist clearance). • Coordinate between psychiatrist, endocrinologist, and plastic surgeon. • Surgery is reasonable if gynecomastia is long-standing, symptomatic, or distressing. Bottom line: Stable schizophrenia is not a contraindication for gynecomastia surgery, but multidisciplinary clearance is essential.
