Hello Sir. Thank you for the question. Sleep is a very important aspect of one's life. Sleep deprivation is said to have depressant effects. They say you should sleep at least for 6 hours per day and not less than that. However disturbances in sleep can be a part of various disorders in psychiatry. Most commonly it is seen in depressive and anxiety disorders. The short history that you have given points more towards lack of interest in your daily activities and feeling goal less. However it does need a detailed evaluation by a psychiatrist to rule out any other physical etiology as well.
Meanwhile, you may make a habit of writing a diary daily. Note down your daily activities and plan a hobby. Exercise for an hour five times a week. Make it a point to talk to your close friends and relatives at least once a day. Follow the above until you meet your psychiatrist for a physical evaluation.
There are various options available including medicines and psychotherapy along with lifestyle modification to help you feel sorted enough once again. Remember help is there always. Don't hesitate and waste time in visiting a psychiatrist. Take care...

What is so haunting, because, you are excusing yourself either with a sleep or without sleep!!!!
Reflect, try to talk to someone who can understand you.
Else, fix an appointment with a psychological counselor and understand how to handle yourself and the issues which you face.
