Hypothyroidism and borderline diabetic
I am borderline diabetic and have hypothyroidism. I also have borderline cholesterol. How often do I need to do the necessary tests to keep these under control? I am following a strict low carb high protein diet and am also trying to minimize dairy consumption. I also do intermittent fasting and hence, do not eat breakfast. My next meal after dinner, is only next day's lunch. I do have a lot of caffeine, though I am careful to have coffee an hour or so after my thyroid medication. I try to eat green vegetables and chicken/fish for dinner and try to minimize carbs for dinner and have a good portion of red rice and/or kodo or barnyard millets for lunch. My sleep cycle is erratic though since I work in an IT company and watching the computer for more than 8 hours and at times, working at night, deprives me of the necessary sleep that's needed for my body. In essence, how do I control thyroid, cholesterol and diabetes and sleep?

Hi You can consult a doctor about how often you have to do test to keep hypothyroidism, cholesterol, and diabetes under control. You are doing intermittent fasting and you are following a high protein and low carbohydrate diet. You do not eat breakfast and your next meal after dinner is lunch. You have a hectic work schedule. Since you are on a strict diet to manage hypothyroidism, diabetes, and cholesterol it is important to know if you are experiencing side effects of intermittent fasting such as headache, mood changes, and fatigue. Fasting can also cause sleep disturbance. You can consult a psychologist and explain about diet and sleep schedule. A psychologist will guide you on how you can sleep well and manage diabetes, cholesterol, and thyroid.

Namaste, A healthy mind = a healthy body. Disorders such as Hypo/Hyperthyroidism, Diabetes are greatly affected by your lifestyle, daily routine, eating and sleeping habits. Taking on numerous diet plans or excessive exercising regimes as a quick fix won’t solve the problem while a consistent, doable and realistic goal planning can. If a work-life balance is achieved, with support of family as well, it will yield better and long lasting results. Hope this helps, have a great day!
