If the baby is otherwise completely well and readings fluctuate between 35.5–36.5°C, measurement variation from the axillary method is a common possibility.
1. Keep the baby comfortably warm—avoid overheating.
2. Recheck after 15–30 minutes with a properly positioned digital thermometer in the armpit.
3. Look at the baby, not just the number: feeding, activity, breathing, colour and responsiveness are important
Seek prompt medical assessment if the temperature remains
Greetings
An axillary temperature between 35.5°C and 36.1°C is slightly lower than average but common due to the less accurate nature of armpit measurements.
Since your 6-month-old baby is active and behaving normally, it is highly likely a result of environmental cooling or a minor positioning error.
To ensure accuracy, place the thermometer tip securely in the deep fold of a dry armpit and hold her arm flat against her side.
Try dressing your baby in an extra layer or practicing skin-to-skin contact, then re-check her temperature to see if it rises.
If the reading consistently remains under 36.0°C despite warming, or if she becomes lethargic or feeds poorly, seek prompt medical advice.
