Hyperthyroidism with raised anti TPO ab
Hello Sir/Mam I am a mbbs student. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism 2 months ago Thyroid profile 2 months ago: Tsh- <0.005    (0.27-5.5) FT3- 5.70        (2.02-4.63) FT4- 2.05         (0.8-1.7) General physician prescribed- carbimazole 30mg/day Thyroid now- Tsh- 0.21       (0.45-5.33) T3- 1.04         (0.87-1.78) T4- 7.27         (6.09-12.23) My Anti TPO ab results showed-  21 IU/ml                                                                     (ref <9) I have dry eyes. Gained 2.5 kg after starting of carbimazole. Dilzem 30 for Heart My antibody results came late and now doctor is on holiday. Does this confirm Grave's disease ? Should i continue treatment from general physician or go to an endocrinologist ? I am really stressed.

Anti TPO antibodies dose not confirm u have graves. As it may b positive in thyroiditis as well. So confirmatory test for graves is iodene/ technetium uptake scan or thyroid receptor stimulating antibodies (TRAB). So can continue carbimozole repeat thyroid test after 6 weeks get the above test.
