How to fix a herniated disc in neck without surgery

I am a 34 year old male diagnosed with herniated disc in my neck. I have pain in my shoulder for which the doctor has given me pain killers. He even asked me to take traction which might relieve the symptoms of herniation. What are the treatment options for this condition other than surgery?

The improvement depends on how big the disc is and the appearance on the MRI scan. 80% of the discs get better in 3 months time. Even if the disc bulge is present, if your pain is getting better surgery is not needed. Traction is unlikely to help much. The other option is to take painkillers and wait. Avoid any stress on the neck and give it time.
