If you have reversed your diabetes with proper diet and exercise, then maintain it and keep monitoring regularly. At 55 years of age, if you have post prandial sugar ( after food) high, then you should get a thorough evaluation from your physician. Diet and exercise certainly have a role, and it should be tailored as per your profile, however you should consider drug until you restore your  sugar profile to normal by only diet and exercise.
