Most umbilical hernias if less than 2 cm resolve on their own by 1 year of age . Surgery is required only if they cause symptoms like pain , tenderness, discolouration or irreducibility or  in case it didn't spontaneously resolve by 4 -5 years of age.

Hi, Belly button, known medically as umbilical hernia Normal conditions you can wait upto 4to 5 years It will spontaneously comedown Normally that swelling is not painful and increase on size while coughing, crying etc, and you can push it back to bowel cavity But If there is pain Baby is irritable Unable to push it back, then needs immediate medical opinion If not getting reduced by its own by 5to 5 years, needs to meet paediatric surgeon
