High level of ASP specific IgE
My father has been diagnosed with Allergic Bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). He has undergone the following tests: PFT - Spirometry: According to the doctor, Lungs function is only 50-60% Total IgE - 2314 IU/ml WBC - 16.04 Aspergillus fumigatus - Allergen Specific IgE: 32.40 kUA/L He is taking medicines for that. I have attached the names of the medicines. Although the treatment is already going on, I want to know how severe is the disease ? And could there be any side effects of the medicine ? Is there any better treatment option ? Thank you in advance.

The severity of the disease depends on the clinical symptoms, extent of involvement on the CT scan and Pulmonary function tests. The antifungal tablets could have some side effects on the liver for which regular monitoring with blood reports is required. Steroids also could have effect on blood sugar, blood pressure, bones, etc.. However whenever a doctor gives the medicine, it is taken into account that the benefit from the medicine is more than the harmful effects and hence it is to be given.

Treatment seems to be appropriate. Severity can be judged via CT scan, response to medicine as per spirometry and how frequently symptoms come back. Now steroids orally have lot of side effects, so your doctor should have a plan, which he will be having, about tapering steroids and getting to minimal dose.
