Greetings. Herpes infection when troublesome to the patient, suppressive therapy can be considered. It is usually offered to patients who suffer with more than or equal to 6 episodes in a year. It can be started with lesser episodes also if the quality of life of the patient is disturbed. Suppressive therapy promises break free intervals and longer remission with reduced dosage. It should be given for a minimum of 6 months duration. In certain cases, the effect works even after discontinuation but as said a period of 6 months has to be there.
