Herniated disc
Hi Doctors, My wife is suffering from severe back pain, which also travels down from her back to hip things, calfs, and ankle. We did the MRI which shows big disc bulge a. We contacted the orthopedic, and they asked for rest and some pain medicines and also suggested surgery. We want to avoid surgery. Can someone suggest if this will be treated without surgery over time and how long will it take. Thanks in advance.

NSAID with muscle relaxant and physiotherapy. Disc bulge won't resolve with medication, will give only symptomatic relief.

First you would need a clinical examination. Disc herniation can get resolved on its own if you take proper precautions but the natural resolution can take sometimes more than a year. The overall course depends on lot of factors
