According to his age, could be an enlargement of the prostate gland. Usg with full bladder and USG after urination will be required. The more he strains, the more narrow the urinary tract becomes. Hence the pain.

Is urination associated with fever? Does he frequently urges to urinates multiple times at night? According to the age and symptoms your father may be having prostatomegaly. Get a usg scan done along with Cbc,KFT,Sr.PSA and urine routine microscopy. Based on reports medication would be provided.
