Hearing recovery possible after surgery?
Hi I had an infection in my right ear which I think had reached upto ear bones. I had been operated after opening up of mastoid in my right ear. It's been over 10 years now and I still have not regained my normal hearing in my right ear. I hear dimly with right ear as compared to left ear. Is there anyway to regain hearing or enhance hearing capability in my right ear?

Hi there. This is Dr Satya Kiran ENT and Cochlear implant surgeon from Hyderabad. The goal of mastoid surgery which was done 10 years back is to make ear safe. The next goals are dryness and function i.e hearing. Hearing is third in the list. The Surgeon who has done surgery might have done well. Coming to restoration of hearing, yes we can restore near normal hearing by another surgery called ossiculoplasty or hearing aids or implantations once we know the type & degree of hearing loss by audiometry & CT scan if temporal (ear) bones
