Hi, I am Dr. Atul Kumar Nimawat MS ENT. The presence of a 4000 Hz notch on audiometry is typically associated with noise-induced hearing loss but may also occur following infections or sudden acoustic or traumatic events. Left Ear (After Cleaning): Ear syringing, although generally safe, can occasionally cause complications such as trauma to the external auditory canal, increased pressure on the tympanic membrane, temporary middle ear inflammation, or, in rare cases, barotrauma if performed too forcefully. The sensation of “something in the ear” along with sounds experienced during swallowing or yawning may indicate Eustachian tube dysfunction, where the tube connecting the middle ear to the nasopharynx fails to regulate pressure effectively, leading to a feeling of ear fullness or blockage. Alternatively, the symptoms could be due to the presence of middle ear effusion (fluid accumulation behind the tympanic membrane) or minor barotrauma sustained during the syringing procedure. Temporary hearing disturbances following ear syringing are possible when middle ear pressure dynamics are affected. However, permanent hearing loss resulting from properly conducted ear syringing is rare, unless there was pre-existing vulnerability in the ear.

Use nasal decongestant for 7 days then stop.

Gentle ear care, protecting the ears from trauma and infections, and regular ENT follow-up are crucial. Home remedies like mild steam inhalation and swallowing exercises can support recovery.
