I use floss to remove the food stuck between the teeth. This has hurt the gums and is painful. Kindly suggest. There's a gap between the crown and a tooth. Dentists say no filling is possible there. Please advise. Thanks

Hello sir,
Hope you are doing good. Aging in one unstoppable process and the gum recession is due to aging. Most of the aged people face this. There is nothing to worry. You can brush your teeth as usual if you feel the food is being stuck and if floss is too painful please do avoid it and it is not mandatory in case of pain. The other option is you can go with new crown but the thing is the recession progresses as age advances so importantly please maintain your oral hygiene as much as you can.

Hi. Normally floss wont cause pain. If it is then there may be inflamed gums because of calculus or caries below crown known as secondary caries. Get an xray done for that tooth.
Regards
This problem usually occurs due to pocket formation around gums. Which increases gradually and often leads to minor bone degradation at that side.
For symptomatic relief What you can do is
Rince the gum area with chlorhexidine mouthwash one daily.
If food stucks in between use floss or intra dental toothbrush to remove it. Strictly avoid sharp instrument or wooden pick to remove food.
For permanent relief,
You may have to get a periodontal surgery done to remove the pocket (which depends on the length and other parameters of gums and bone)
Once pocket is removed and bone graft is added(if bone loss was found) then simply changing the crown with new dimension will help you get rid of this problem.
