Hello, my son is 13 years old, and I have recently noticed 2–3 grey/white hairs appearing in different areas of his scalp. He eats reasonably well, but I’m still concerned because he is quite young. I am his mother, and my own hair started turning grey when I was around 14–15 years old. Could this family history be one of the reasons for his early greying? If genetics can be a factor, is there anything I can do from now onwards to prevent or slow down further greying in my child? Please guide me on what I should check or do. Thank you.

Hello
Premature greying of hair has multiple causes:
1. Genetics
2. Nutritional deficiency
3. Environmental factors
4. Stress
5. Underlying health conditions like vitiligo
Since you also had grey hair during your teenage years, it can be one of the reason. Also we will have to rule out other causes. There are certain topical lotions which can be started.
