This is a difficult decision I would say this is the golden period to get the gallbladder removed. at later age if complications develop he may not be fit to get the surgery done. the stone size is large enough to require surgery. if somehow the stones are dissolved with any medicine although it  is not possible even then new stones form again very easily within months so the gallbladder has to be removed in total.
