Fluorosis causes intrinsic (internal) stains in the teeth. These stains cannot be removed by toothpaste alone.
Regular toothpastes like Colgate or Sensodyne do not cause fluorosis to worsen. If your teeth feel rough or more yellow, it may be due to surface deposits or enamel changes, not the toothpaste.
For daily use, choose:
• A mild fluoridated toothpaste
• Avoid highly abrasive or charcoal-based toothpaste
However, toothpaste will not correct fluorosis stains. Treatment options depend on severity and may include:
• Professional cleaning and polishing
• Microabrasion
• Teeth whitening
• Composite bonding or veneers in moderate to severe cases
It is best to get a dental evaluation to decide the correct treatment. Self-changing toothpaste will not significantly improve fluorosis stains.
Enamel microabrasion, cosmetic treatments (veneers, crowns), treth bleaching are some of the options for fluorosis teeth. There is no particularl toothpaste that can make the fluorosis stains go away permanently. But it can reduce the visibility if these stains.
Teeth whitening by bleaching, Enamel microabrasion, Dental bonding and veneers or crowns depending on the extent of visibility of stains are the only known treatments for Dental Fluorosis and Intrinsic Stains and it can provide a significant change in the contrast of teeth.
Next Steps
Using a Toothpaste having Mild Abrasive content with proper brushing. Consult your nearest Practitioner for a suitable opinion regarding Veneers.
Health Tips
Don’t overdo the brushing part since it can lead to Dentinal Hypersensitivity if you erode your enamel in doing so.
