Fever with low platelet count

Asked for Male, 63 Years

My dad is having fever from past 10 days and his platelet count is fluctuating between 40K to 65K. Tests were done to diagnose dengu and malaria but it was found negative. Doctor says its a viral infection and there is no need to worry but I am not convinced. Please help.
