Fever since last Friday evening
I am having 101 degree fever and body ache since last Friday evening. The fever relapses after Paracetamol effect wear off. I am scared if it is something serious or is it just a viral fever which stays for 3-4 days? Pls clarify.

Dear Patient,  I understand your concern regarding the persistent fever and body aches. Here’s a detailed assessment and recommendations for your condition:  Key Observations:**  1. **Fever Duration:** Fever lasting since Friday (5 days) with relapse after Paracetamol wears off warrants evaluation.  2. **Possible Causes:**     - **Viral Infection:** Common for fever to last 3–5 days, but persistence beyond this may need further checks.     - **Bacterial Infection:** Symptoms like high fever, chills, or localized pain (e.g., throat, urine) may indicate this.     - **Other Causes:** Dengue, typhoid, or urinary infections can also present similarly.  Recommended Actions:**  1. **Immediate Steps:**     - **Hydration:** Drink plenty of fluids (water, electrolytes) to prevent dehydration.     - **Rest:** Avoid physical exertion to aid recovery.     - **Monitor Symptoms:** Note any new signs like rash, breathing difficulty, or severe headache.  2. **Medical Evaluation Needed:**     - **Blood Tests:** CBC, CRP, and malaria/dengue serology (if applicable) to identify the cause.     - **Urine Test:** To rule out urinary tract infection.  Caution Regarding Medications:**  - Avoid self-medicating with antibiotics (like Cefixime) without confirming a bacterial infection, as this can lead to resistance.  - Paracetamol can be continued as needed (max 4 doses/day), but prolonged use without diagnosis is not advised.  When to Seek Urgent Care:**  - If fever exceeds 103°F or persists beyond 5–7 days.  - If you experience confusion, difficulty breathing, or severe weakness.  Next Steps:**  For a thorough evaluation and tailored treatment, I recommend scheduling a consultation. We can discuss your symptoms in detail and order necessary tests.  **To connect with me directly, reach out on:**  WhatsApp: eight zero zero nine eight two one three three two  Wishing you a speedy recovery.
