10yrs ago I used to be an average student. No one had any expectations from me. But then I suddenly surprised everyone and achieved what I ought to. But it didn't stop there. A lot more is there to reach. But I'm back with my average or below average level. Now everyone wants to see me achieve something, including me want something to do for myself. I convinced myself all these years that I can achieve things I wanted to. But people around me are far better in understanding the subjects, applying the knowledge to solve questions and getting better ranks. I too wanted to study the same way but how hard i try, I'm not even able to concentrate. It's been 2 years since I've been stuck around with my books but nothing changed. Maybe I dreamed too high for myself, that I now am not willing to accept where I am , what I can do. Now recently I'm crying whenever I'm alone, easily get distracted, forget that i was crying and again back to crying one's distraction stopped which is increasing daily

First, please know: you are not "worthless" or incapable—you are experiencing severe academic burnout, profound imposter syndrome, and a clinically significant Depressive Episode.
When you operate under intense pressure for two years, chronic stress depletes dopamine and serotonin in the prefrontal cortex. This directly impairs working memory, focus, and information processing. You cannot concentrate not because you lack intelligence, but because your brain is exhausted and depressed. The crying spells, constant self-comparison, and emotional overwhelm are classic signs of depression rather than personal failure.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychiatrist: An evaluation for moderate depression/burnout can determine if a short-term first-line medication (like an SSRI) is needed to restore neurochemical balance, energy, and concentration. You can book a session with me.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Work with a psychologist to address harsh self-criticism, catastrophic thinking, and imposter feelings.
Take a Structured Micro-Break: Give yourself 3 to 5 days completely away from books without guilt to allow your nervous system to reset.
Break Study into "Pomodoro" Intervals: When resuming, study in very small 20-minute focused blocks followed by a 5-minute break, rather than sitting at a desk for hours without retention.
Basic Blood Work: Check Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3, and TSH (Thyroid), as low levels frequently worsen brain fog and low mood.
Health Tips
Stop measuring your worth solely by competitive exam ranks or comparisons to peers. Academic setbacks do not define your intelligence or future potential.
Lower Daily Study Targets Temporarily: Trying to force full-day study sessions during active depression increases frustration; aim for manageable consistency over volume.
Reach Out: Talk to a trusted family member, friend, or counselor instead of keeping this emotional burden isolated to yourself.
Hi, I understand what you’re going through. Constant comparison, pressure and fear of not meeting expectations can make concentration very difficult. It doesn’t mean you are incapable or that you dreamed too high. Your mind may simply be exhausted.
Therapy can help you understand what is blocking you, manage the emotional overwhelm and gradually rebuild your confidence and focus.
