Feeding schedule
I am feeding my 2 months old baby on demand, which baby asks for feed by 3-4 hrs , sometimes baby feeds only for 5-7 min and burp by himself and leaves the feed, it means baby got enough milk by only 5 mins of feed even after taking break for 4 hrs.?

Hello There is no such fixed schedule for feeding Feed on demand – usually every 2 to 3 hours, or 8–12 times/day Feeding patterns are still developing. Every baby is different. Responsive, demand-based feeding helps the baby grow well and stay content. Each feed lasts 15–30 minutes (may vary between babies) Look for signs baby is hungry: Sucking fingers, Rooting (turning head when cheek is touched), Crying is a late sign Wet diapers 6–8/day and soft yellow stools mean feeding is adequate Baby should gain ~25–30g/day at this stage
Next Steps
Avoid: Giving water or other foods (exclusive milk only till 6 months) Forcing a rigid schedule—baby’s needs vary each day
Health Tips
Red flags: Baby feeds poorly or vomits frequently Has fewer than 6 wet diapers/day Excessive sleepiness or poor weight gain

Yes, it's quite possible that your 2-month-old baby is getting enough milk even with just 5–7 minutes of feeding, especially if: Baby is gaining weight adequately. Has 6 or more wet diapers per day. Is alert, active, and content after feeding. Pooping regularly. No signs of dehydration (like sunken eyes, dry mouth, lethargy). By 2 months, many babies become more efficient at sucking and can extract sufficient milk in a shorter time. Milk flow may be fast, especially during letdown, allowing the baby to get the needed amount quickly. Also some babies are quick feeders by nature and don’t linger at the breast.
Next Steps
Observe baby's cues-  If your baby unlatches on their own, burps, and seems satisfied, it usually means they’re done. Don’t force to continue feeding if the baby seems content. You can offer the same breast again if you’re unsure baby got the hindmilk, or offer the second breast if baby still seems interested.
Health Tips
When to Worry-  If baby sleeps too much, appears lethargic, is not gaining weight, or has fewer wet diapers, evaluation may be needed.

No, a baby should be fed for 15-30 minutes at a time, but it is completely normal if a baby does not take feed once or twice, if it happens more often or if the baby feels lethargic and dull, consult a Paediatrician.

Hi! I assume as per your description it’s breastfeeding you are talking about A marker for adequate feeding is at least 6-8 times urine per day and a good weight gain - 500 to 900 gms per month for now These details are missing in your complaints A good 15 - 20 min breast feed is ideal. The initial milk quenches the thirst, is more watery. The hind milk is richer in fat and is good for growth. Only a few babies are vigorous feeders and will finish most milk in 5 min - if so you need to offer the other breast. Check out the following: Is the baby leaving the breast for burping? Sounds unusual. Or are you speaking about bottle feeds? How is the weight gain? How is the child’s activity? At 2 months the baby should be actively crying, social smile should be there and visual fixation and visual following should be there
